One of my favorite painting memories is participating in a “paint-out” in North Carolina. As a tribute to one of our most American art forms, quilting, artists all over Appalachia have painted quilt squares and displayed them on barns, houses, and city buildings. All the paintings memorialize traditional quilting patterns, and pay homage to our roots as American artists. So often we think of the great artists of France or Italy, so this was a beautiful reminder of our own heritage.
My daughter say you can see at least 6 quilt scores mounted on barns in rural Virginia on the drive from Knoxville to Richmond.
